Wax Now For Smooth Summer Skin

Wax Prep Season: Why Fall and Winter Are the Best Time to Start Waxing

Most people think of waxing as a summer thing, but honestly, the cooler months are the perfect time to start. When your skin isn’t seeing as much sun (and you’re not constantly shaving for shorts season), you can focus on building a consistent waxing routine that gets your skin smoother and your hair growing back softer.

Why Start Now:

  • Hair grows back finer + slower. Sticking to a regular schedule helps train your hair growth cycle so it becomes softer and more even over time.

  • Cooler weather = calmer skin. There’s less sweat, sun, and irritation when it’s cold out, making it easier for your skin to recover after a wax.

  • Consistency pays off. You can grow your hair out between appointments without stressing about it showing — and by summer, you’ll already have smoother, easier-to-manage skin.

  • Helps with dry winter skin. Waxing gently exfoliates, removing dull, dry buildup and leaving your skin feeling soft and fresh.

Stay Consistent

Waxing works best when you keep up with a regular schedule, typically every four to six weeks. Staying consistent helps your hair grow on a more even cycle, which leads to softer, finer regrowth and smoother results that last longer between appointments.

Starting your waxing routine in the fall or winter gives your skin time to adjust and your hair time to transition into that healthier growth pattern. By the time summer arrives, you’ll already have smoother skin, minimal regrowth, and a much easier maintenance routine.

How to Prep for Your Wax

A little prep goes a long way in getting the best results:

  • Exfoliate the day before to lift away dead skin and prevent ingrowns.

  • Let your hair grow to about a ¼ inch (roughly the size of a grain of rice).

  • Skip lotions or oils the day of your appointment so the wax can grip the hair properly.

  • Avoid tanning or heavy sun before your wax — it can make your skin extra sensitive.

What to Expect

We always start by cleansing the area and applying a pre-wax treatment to protect your skin. The wax goes on warm (never hot!) and is removed quickly, taking the hair from the root. You might see a little redness after, but it usually fades within a few hours.

The more consistently you wax, the less sensitive your skin becomes

Aftercare Tips

Keep your skin happy after your wax with a few simple steps:

  • Avoid hot showers, workouts, or tight clothes for 24 hours.

  • Skip exfoliating for a couple of days, then gently exfoliate to prevent ingrowns.

  • Keep your skin hydrated with a gentle moisturizer or oil.

  • Always use SPF if the area will be in the sun — freshly waxed skin is more sensitive.

Products We Recommend

Keeping your skin smooth and healthy between waxes is just as important as the wax itself. At Charlie Rae Skincare, we love Bushbalm products for their clean ingredients and real results. Here are a few favorites we recommend:

  • Ingrown Hair Oil – Helps soothe irritation, prevent bumps, and keep skin soft and hydrated between appointments.

  • Roller Rescue – A gentle exfoliating roller that targets ingrown hairs and uneven texture while calming the skin.

  • After Dark Brightening Gel – Helps fade dark spots and even out skin tone, especially in areas like the bikini line or underarms.

  • Radiant Reset Pads – Exfoliating pads that remove buildup and dead skin cells to keep pores clear and your results lasting longer.

Using these products regularly helps your skin stay calm, clear, and ready for your next wax. We can help you choose which ones fit best for your skin type and needs at your next visit.
